Convivial dining in Torquay at The Orange Tree Restaurant
The modest location of The Orange Tree Restaurant doesn’t hint at the hospitality to be discovered beyond the entrance of this delightful bijou restaurant – which makes it even more of a special find.
Owners Vittorio and Tatjana Melis took over the Torquay restaurant in March 2019 and have been gradually refining its classic à la carte and tasting menus ever since.
Guests are greeted at the door, and diners regaled with anecdotes about food and wine during their meal. It’s this genuine welcome and the relaxed pace of dinner that give the Torquay restaurant its unique charm. After an evening being indulged with olives, homebaked bread and delightful petits fours, guests feel they’ve joined an exclusive dining club.
The white tablecloths, soft lighting and an exquisite tipple from Vittorio’s personally curated wine list encourages diners to settle in for a lavish feast of sumptuous dishes based around the likes of local beef, sea bass and duck. Perfectly curated flavours turn even a simple pan-seared bream into utter luxury with additions such as charred fennel, grilled langoustine tail and grapefruit gel.
Trencherman’s tip: don’t miss the opportunity to try the classic puddings and discover delightfully playful and contemporary twists on the likes of sticky toffee pudding and black forest gateau.
