Idyllic retreat in St Mawes

The Idle Rocks’ waterfront location is a stunning setting from which to enjoy exceptional food and exemplary hospitality.

Trencherman’s Award‑winning Cornish chef Dorian Janmaat heads up the boutique hotel’s kitchen and combines classic French culinary techniques with European influences from his travels.

Community is at the heart of The Idle Rocks, which the restaurant reflects by championing Cornish produce. The food is local and fresh, with daily deliveries procured from nearby MSC‑certified fishermen.

The innovative menus cater for all dietary requirements, and signature dishes include the likes of butter‑poached plaice with crab risotto, courgette and saffron velouté, and miso‑glazed aubergine with bulgur wheat salad. Desserts are simple and elegant – think Cornish strawberries and tonka bean brûlée.

Start your visit with a cocktail on the terrace to soak up the tranquil views across St Mawes harbour. While those lucky enough to be staying at the Relais & Châteaux hotel get to gaze at rooms that fuse traditional coastal culture with contemporary design.

There’s also a new treatment room – The Reef Knot Retreat – where guests can reset mind, body and spirit with a range of therapeutic treatments.

Trencherman’s tip: request a Grand Seaview Room with a window‑side tub so you can soak while watching sailing boats in the bay.
