Art and culinary artistry collide at Broomhill

Broomhill Estate has long been loved for its sculpture gardens and art installations, but it recently relaunched its restaurant with a culinary offering that’s as carefully curated as the visual feast surrounding diners.

The new concept, called Canvas, features evolving menus that give a snapshot of the best produce available at any given moment in the season (the first menu celebrated British summertime – think fresh berries and barbecues). Menus sit alongside changing exhibitions, taking guests on a uniquely aesthetic restaurant experience.

The dining format has also been updated with three-course set menu and Signature Palette menu options, which executive chef Elio Debae crafts from exclusively British ingredients – including produce from the estate itself. Expect the likes of ceviche scallops with fermented celeriac, lemon verbena and estate-grown sprout kimchi, and foraged blackberry sorbet with surplus-Prosecco oxymel and fennel pollen.

Thoughtful drinks pairings are selected to complement the menu, and there’s also a new craft cocktail programme. Signature Canvas cocktails riff on classics while using the best of what’s available from the surrounding countryside, such as in the Fig Leaf Martini.

For those staying over there are seven boutique bedrooms, each inspired by a cult film. Alternatively, feel at one with nature by parking up your campervan in the woods for a spot of wild camping.

Trencherman’s tip: Take your drink to the film lounge to admire authentic props from films like Fight Club and Alien vs. Predator while you sip.
