The Langford Inn

Langford Road, Langford, Somerset, BS40 5BL

Dog-friendly coaching inn

This characterful 17th-century coaching inn on the outskirts of Bristol is popular with locals and attracts a steady stream of travellers looking for sustenance en route to Bristol Airport, just five miles away.

The Langford is owned by Butcombe Brewery, based in the neighbouring village of Wrington, so there’s a cracking range of cask ales and beers on tap. This weaves its way into the daily menus too, such as in the Butcombe Gold beer-battered fish and chips.

Having recently secured two AA rosettes, chef Ryan Granaski is adept at creating dishes that showcase locally sourced produce. Plates such as salt-baked beetroot with sprouting broccoli tempura, lentil dal, smoked tomato jam and a cumin and coconut yogurt, and kimchi and wild rice fritters with black sesame hummus, rose harissa carrots and cashew dukkah give an indication of a chef unafraid of transcending traditional pub staples.

The inn was recently refurbished and has seven boutique bedrooms decorated in a contemporary country-chic style. With the rolling Mendip Hills on its doorstep and dogs welcome overnight too, it’s a perfect spot for a gourmet weekend away.

Trencherman’s tip: The Langford is a true community hub so keep an eye on socials for upcoming events such as its monthly supper clubs.
