Stay the night

Grown-ups-only glamour at Fistral Beach

After a year dedicated to seeking out the best local producers and refining menus, in April 2023 the team at this chic hotel and restaurant were delighted to be awarded a second AA rosette.

Head chef Daniel Kerr has spent much of his career in Cornwall so knows exactly how to make seasonal Cornish ingredients sing. The five‑course tasting menu (with optional wine flight) at the ocean-facing Dune Restaurant is the best way to sample his ambitious cooking. Explore culinary creations such as crab and prawn tortellini, monkfish loin with lentil dal and pickled carrots, and Fox Hill lamb with purple sprouting broccoli.

The surfy hotel has a luxury resort vibe thanks to its incredible views, contemporary styling and rock‑star extras, so there’s no compromise if you swap the south of France for the Cornish coast. Overlooking Newquay’s sweeping Fistral Beach, the bar and restaurant’s panoramic windows offer guests rolling coverage of surfers riding the waves below.

After a relaxing day of pampering in the Fistral Spa, kick off the evening with drinks in the Bay Bar. The experienced team, who scooped Best Bar List at the Trencherman’s Awards 2022, serve signature cocktails such as The Hugo (a concoction of St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur, mint leaves, fresh lime, Prosecco and soda) as well as local craft beers.

Trencherman’s tip: The vegan menu goes above and beyond to provide plant‑based diners with creative options like salt-baked heritage beetroot tartlet with dukkah spice and herb salad.
