Stay the night

Laid-back coastal luxury

Tucked down winding rural lanes in lush coastal south Devon, Gara Rock is a destination hotel with a stunning clifftop restaurant serving refined seasonal dishes.

Impressive floor-to-ceiling windows showcase unrivalled views of the waves below, making this a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.

In the Gara kitchen, there’s a focus on quality, locally sourced produce from land and sea, cooked with precision by a talented team led by chef Paul Hegley. Tasting menus, as well as two- and three-course set menus, offer tempting dishes which are packed with regional flavour – delicacies such as Salcombe crab and fish caught in Devon waters are standard fare here. These are enhanced by seasonal ingredients sourced from the Gara Rock Hotel kitchen garden, including honey from its hives in collaboration with the Salcombe Bee Company.

Zero-waste practices are followed wherever possible, with leftover ingredients often used to create inventive concoctions when infused in spirits behind the bar. Speaking of drinks, elevate the dining experience with the specially selected wine flight, or perhaps a local beer, cider or carefully crafted cocktail.

Trencherman’s tip: Seeking a very special treat? Unparalleled opulence awaits when booking one of the Out of the Ordinary suites: tuck away in The Secret Suite, sip fizz on the sun terrace in The Signal House, or luxuriate in sea views from the freestanding roll-top bath in The Penthouse.
