Contemporary luxury in the Cotswolds

Starched white table linen, pastel-hued furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows create an elegant setting in which to dine at The Slaughters Manor House.

This beautiful 17th-century manor in the Cotswolds is steeped in history yet exudes contemporary luxury and comfort. And nowhere is this more prevalent than in head chef Nik Chappell’s artful creations, which reflect the refined mood.

For a light and zingy dish, Cornish crab quiche with lemon mayo and chamomile hits the spot, while heartier appetites will appreciate the indulgence of loin of Cotswold venison with red cabbage, blackberries and sauce grand veneur, or veal ribeye with tongue, cheek, onion and truffle.

Pre-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the ritzy cocktail lounge, which has a 360-degree bar where visitors can perch on blush-pink stools while their server rustles up cocktails or pours spirits from an extensive drinks list.

For the full Slaughters’ experience, book one of the characterful guestrooms. Each is named and styled after members of the Whitmore family, who owned the manor for many generations.

Trencherman’s tip: If visiting for afternoon tea, be sure to take a turn around the beautifully manicured lawns and garden.
