This characterful 17th-century coaching inn on the outskirts of Bristol is popular with locals, yet also attracts a steady stream of travellers looking for sustenance en route to Bristol Airport, five miles away.
The Langford Inn is owned by Butcombe Brewery (based in the neighbouring village of Wrington) so there’s a cracking range of cask ales and beers on tap. This weaves its way into the daily menus too, such as in the Butcombe Gold beer-battered fish and chips.
The inn reached the finals in the Best Pub category of the Trencherman’s Awards 2024 and holds two AA rosettes under chef Archie Pledge.
Archie and team have built a menu that delivers dishes showcasing the best of English produce in crowd-pleasing starters such as crispy pig-cheek terrine with burnt-apple ketchup and fennel salad, and mains such as whole Brixham plaice with confit new potatoes, seasonal garden vegetables and chicken butter sauce.
Plant-based diners will appreciate the likes of glazed celeriac with hen of the woods, smoked potato and spinach, pickled walnut and blackberry.
The inn has a collection of boutique bedrooms decorated in contemporary country-chic style. With the rolling Mendip Hills on the doorstep and dogs welcome overnight too, it’s a perfect spot for a gourmet weekend away.
