Lockdown takeout: HIX Oyster & Fish Truck

Hotfoot it to HIX Oyster & Fish Truck for an end-of-the-week fish feast takeaway

The lowdown

Get a Hix hit while The Oyster & Fish House is closed in lockdown by hotfooting it to Mark’s converted Chevrolet ambulance. The chef pitches the fish truck/mobile kitchen outside Felicity’s Farm Shop in Morcombelake on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings and sells beautifully fresh and locally caught wet fish, seafood and snacks. In addition to raw seafood and Hix’s Flodge-smoked salmon (Mark smokes the salmon at his Charmouth house ‘Flodge’), there’s always a cooked dish of the day to take home which, of course, is based on what’s been landed that morning.

When

HIX Oyster & Fish Truck is open Thursday to Saturday, 9am-12pm.

Why HIX Oyster & Fish Truck?

Mark buys seafood directly from Lyme Bay Reserve fishermen, which helps to support them during this difficult time when they can’t sell fish to restaurants. It’s not just an opportunity to tuck in to the spoils of the sea either; you’ll also find local produce including freshly gathered sea vegetables, plus herbs and salad leaves from Mark’s Charmouth garden. As an avid collector of vintage silver and copperware, Mark’s ‘Vintage Kitchenalia’ is also sold from the truck – look out for cool items such as copper pans and silver cocktail shakers.

Foodie creds

The seasoned chef and restaurateur has run award winning restaurants in both London and Lyme Regis, and was awarded an MBE in 2017 for his services to hospitality. In 2020 he relaunched his immensely popular Lyme Regis HIX restaurant as The Oyster & Fish House, revealed the HIX Oyster & Fish Truck to the world and opened his first pub in Dorset: The Fox Inn in Corscombe.

Sample menu

The streetfood pop-up cooks by-catch so what’s on the menu changes daily and is freshly made that morning. Recurring menu highlights include lobster rolls, oysters mary and oyster po’boys.

How to order

No pre-ordering necessary, simply tap this address in to your sat nav: Felicity’s Farm Shop, A35, Morcombelake, Dorset, DT6 6DJ, and rock up to the fish truck to see what piscatorial pleasures take your fancy.

The thought of splashing £200 plus on dinner for two might make you wince, but every penny is well accounted for in the uber luxe Lucknam Park experience.
