Fresh-from-the-ocean seafood is the calling card of this award-winning restaurant, just a stone’s throw from the River Exe.

Located in a charmingly crooked 18th-century townhouse, The Galley has an intimate bistro vibe that makes it an ideal date-night venue. Reserve a table for two and indulge in a couple or three courses from the fish-forward menu – paired with something special from the extensive wine list.

Head chef Louis Huggins majors in bold, clean flavours and regularly updates the line-up to rep the day’s catch. Expect to find the likes of scallops with cauliflower, hazelnuts and watercress to start, followed by mains such as pan-roasted hake with kale, Champagne butter sauce and new potatoes.

The carefully curated menu always includes quality meat and vegetarian options too.

The dishes have seen The Galley adorned with an array of accolades including a Michelin plate, a Bib Gourmand and a listing in Harden’s restaurant guide.

Trencherman’s tip

Leave room for the epic cheeseboard of South West dairy favourites such as Kelston Park brie and Pennard Vale goat’s cheese.
