Chequers

50 Rivers Street, Bath, BA1 2QA

Church pew banquettes, deep grey walls and parquet flooring with light flooding in from large Georgian sash windows: Chequers certainly cuts a dash as a smart traditional pub.

Set in a townhouse on an elegant street in Bath‘s famously dapper neighbourhood (the Circus and the Royal Crescent are just around the corner), Chequers offers something for everyone – from casual cocktails and cosy lunches to the full dinner experience.

The kitchen team, led by head chef Sam Stone, work with independent suppliers, including ethical and sustainable farmers. All fish specials are sourced directly from South West dayboats to ensure the very best produce graces the plates.

Go the whole hog with a starter of Cornish octopus with ‘nduja, anchovy gremolata, aioli and kale, followed by West End Farm pork collar with celeriac remoulade, black pudding, pea, gooseberry and cider jus, or opt for the Cornish mackerel with clams, Jersey Royals, baby leeks, sea lettuce and pickled apple.

Pair your pick of the food with a traditional ale, chic cocktail or vibrant wine.
