Potters

2 Lansdown Road, Bude, Cornwall, EX23 8BH

Fish feasting in Bude

An exciting new development for this much-loved restaurant in Bude is a pivot to a more relaxed bistro-style menu, with seafood front and centre.

Chef Oly Clarke’s menus maximise on Cornwall’s super-fresh fishy bounty, with a smattering of meat and veg options thrown in.

Sharing plates of St Ives smoked mackerel pâté with pickles and sourdough, wild whitebait with marie rose sauce, and Atlantic Fungi mushroom arancini with truffle mayo tease proceedings. However, the main attraction is Potters’ upmarket fish and chips, in which fillets of cod, haddock or hake are fried to crisp perfection.

Tandoori Cornish monkfish with coriander yogurt and red onion will also appeal to the piscatorially inclined, while southern fried chicken served with fried egg, honey and a bacon and chive waffle has proved a consistent crowd-pleaser. There’s a daily specials board too, which showcases the day’s catch along with fresh seasonal produce.

Pair the briny feast with a tipple from Potters’ extensive drinks menu. Post-dinner cocktail? Plump for a classic Negroni, given a Cornish twist with Bude Gin.

Trencherman’s tip: For those who fancy fish and chips by the sea, Potters offers a takeaway menu featuring family-friendly chip shop favourites.
