This rotisserie-led restaurant in Ashburton takes its inspiration from the small neighbourhood bistros of France that change their menus weekly to reflect whatever’s good, local, and in season.
Sibling to the Italian-style Emilia nearby, Le Vin Perdu hops the border into France for its flavour cues. However, it keeps the same laidback, neighbourhood vibe that’s become the signature of Clare Lattin and Tom Hill’s restaurants.
The rotisserie is the heart of the kitchen. Expect meltingly soft lamb shoulder in rosemary and anchovy butter, served with garlic-roasted parmentier potatoes, or sample luscious rotisserie chicken with garlic and herb butter, served with potatoes roasted in chicken fat.
Occupying one of Ashburton’s ancient townhouses, Le Vin Perdu’s light-filled dining room features a bar for aperitifs, plus larger tables for group and family dining. In the summer, feast outside in the garden. For an easygoing family feast, swing by for the rotisserie chicken Sunday lunch.
Where Le Vin Perdu brings French vibes, Emilia invites guests into an intimate open kitchen and dining space, serving a weekly changing menu of Italian plates (including a homemade pasta dish).
Both restaurants scour Dartmoor and the South Hams for hyper-local produce, which is treated with reverence by the creative kitchen team.
