Corkage

5 Chapel Row, Bath, BA1 1HN

Corkage in Bath embodies the rustic charm of a continental neighbourhood bistro, exuding the kind of cosy intimacy that sees the team on first-name terms with guests.

Originally a pop-up venture conceived by pals Richard Knighting and Marty Grant (pictured), Corkage is now one of Bath’s most loved and award-winning dining destinations. The premise is simple: a rotation of seasonal plates is paired with a handpicked curation of wines – available by the glass or bottle. If you’re bowled over by a particular drop, you can pick up a bottle to take home.

When the pair opened Corkage in Bath, their aim was to create a place that would encourage conviviality and conversation. Sharing is actively encouraged, so don’t be shy about ordering multiple plates from the creative line-up and digging in with your nearest and dearest.

Conveniently split into veggie, fish and meat dishes, the ever-evolving menu features the likes of roasted pigeon with puy-lentil salad, black pudding and pickled walnuts, and confit ChalkStream trout with tomato consommé, broad beans, wakame seaweed and concasse. Plant-based diners will like the roasted beetroot (from Bath’s Middle Ground Growers) with truffled goat’s cheese and a beetroot and tarragon dressing.

Chef Rob Thompson’s high-calibre cooking is taken next-level by Richard and Marty’s passion for wine. The duo’s instinct for pairing is exceptional, so take the opportunity to sample something new.
