Flute

9 Edgar Buildings, George St, Bath BA1 2EE

This all-day seafood and sparkling wine spot in Bath offers the opportunity to transport oneself from the centre of the bustling city to the Cornish coastline, where time is irrelevant, the vibe relaxed and the fish impeccably fresh.

Set in a bright and light building on George Street, Flute Bath was the brainchild of restaurateur Roger Payne and inspired by his days spent in Cornwall feasting on seafood and sipping fine wines.

A collaboration with fish merchants Wing of St Mawes ensures the menu is awash with the latest catch, plucked from Cornish waters in the morning and whizzed to the city in time for lunch. Experience some of the stellar seafood in a Grande Mer Platter for two, which includes oysters, langoustine, king prawns, mussels and clams.

Bringing a friend who’s not a seafood enthusiast? Options such as steak frites ensure every taste is catered for.

There are some exceptional wines on offer but it’s also worth exploring the vibrant cocktail list, which goes well beyond the usual suspects. Sip, pre or post dinner, in The Octopus Lounge Bar at the rear of the restaurant.

Trencherman’s tip

The restaurant’s name references the Champagne glass and not the musical instrument. It alludes to the carefully considered wine list that majors on all things sparkling, with English wines given special prominence.
