Mickeys Beach

Caines’ laid-back beachside joint

The most relaxed member of the Michael Caines Collection, Mickeys Beach may be less formal in style and service than its stablemates (which include Michelin-starred Lympstone Manor just up the road) but it’s no less inviting.

Caines dreamed of creating a venue that would encapsulate the social joy of informal seaside dining, whether that’s enjoying fabulous food or simply a cocktail and nibbles. The result is this laid-back, family-friendly restaurant and bar, part of Exmouth’s Sideshore watersports centre.

Downstairs is a large bar area with an informal menu – an ideal spot for light lunches with family and friends (pooches are also welcome). For a romantic meal or celebratory occasion, opt for a table in Mickeys Beach Restaurant upstairs. The atmosphere is equally fun but the ocean views are even more astounding. This is a place where you can let your hair down, but rest assured there’s no compromise on quality. Everything Michael puts his name to is top-notch, from the Mickeys Beach burgers to the Neapolitan-style pizzas (try the Golosona for a rich blend of blue cheese, artichoke, red pepper and spicy salami). Fresh fish is sourced direct from Lyme Bay and expertly cooked over charcoal.

Trencherman’s tip: For a very special Sunday lunch, book in for Mickeys Roast on the Coast to get stuck into meltingly tender Devon-reared meats cooked on the spit over coals. Uber-local suppliers include Darts Farm and Lashbrook Farm.
