Watersmeet Hotel

The Esplanade, Woolacombe, Devon, EX34 7EB

Stay the night

Watersmeet Hotel, awarded Condé Nast Johansens Best Waterside Hotel 2024, is an intimate boutique escape framed by breathtaking sea views across the north Devon coast. Guests also enjoy direct, private access to the pristine sands of Combesgate, so it’s a hotspot for beach lovers.

Inside, a smart refurb has seen Rocks Restaurant, Palms Room (the hotel’s informal bistro) and other areas enjoy a glow-up with New England-inspired decor. The chic and tranquil aesthetic feels contemporary and airy with its Lloyd Loom chairs and wooden flooring.

Rocks Restaurant presents a thoughtfully curated and seasonally evolving menu, which has earned the venue two AA rosettes. Born and bred in nearby Barnstaple, head chef John Cairns is devoted to championing local produce.

Dishes such as pan-fried scallops with celeriac puree, and venison loin with pickled plums, can be relished alongside an extensive wine list and sweeping sea views.

Dining is open to all – hotel guests or not – so anyone is welcome to drop by for a light lunch or afternoon tea, or book in for a lavish evening meal. Hotel residents, however, can also enjoy indoor and outdoor heated pools, luxurious spa facilities and bespoke treatments, so it’s worth making it a weekender.

Trencherman’s tip

On Saturdays, hotel guests gather on the lawn to offer a gentle namaste to the day. There’s nothing quite like a soothing yoga session with a soundtrack of crashing waves to start the day right.
