ʻLittle did Rick and I ever imagine, when we opened our doors in 1975, we would still be here 50 years later,ʼ Jill Stein says as The Seafood Restaurant marks its half-century on the South West dining scene.
But with its winning mix of smart–casual dishes, ultra-fresh local seafood and global wines, it’s no surprise that the Stein family’s flagship restaurant has become such a longstanding classic.
A fiercely entrepreneurial spirit and a lack of ego may be partly to thank for the restaurant’s ongoing success. Those values have been at the forefront since day one, as Rick and Jill grew the business organically in Padstow and beyond. Today, they continue to be upheld by their sons Charlie, Jack and Ed.
Join the discerning pilgrims who journey to Padstow to sample dishes such as classic lobster thermidor, cooked in a light cream and Noilly Prat sauce with fines herbes and parmesan, and served with thin-cut chips. Dishes change seasonally, depending on what produce is delivered to head chef Pete Murt’s kitchen door, so there’s always something new to sample.
Dining at a table in the restaurant is delightful, but those swinging by for a quick bite and a glass of wine should perch at the central zinc bar and watch the restaurant action unfold.
Trencherman’s tip
Guests can celebrate the restaurant’s milestone by booking the Taste of 50 Years menu, getting away from it all with a Golden Celebration break in one of the coastally inspired rooms, or trying their hand at something from the anniversary cookbook.
