Yamas

The Quay, Looe, Cornwall, PL13 1AH

Greek dishes packed with Cornish ingredients make for a sublime collision of cultures at this East Looe restaurant. Its name is taken from the Greek toast ‘to our health!’ and helps set the continental tone.

Set right on the water’s edge, Yamas is heaven for gourmets who subscribe to the idea that good food tastes all the sweeter with a noseful of sea air and a backdrop of higgledy-piggledy fishermen’s cottages. Add pared-back interiors of whites and neutrals, and the result is a perfect reflection of luminous Cornish skies and simple Greek style.

From expertly slow-cooked beef-cheek stifado to crispy calamari, creamy moussaka, and melt-in-the-mouth parcels comprising filo, feta and spinach, expect all the classics found in a true Greek taverna. Everything, down to the simplicity of the humble Greek salad, is carefully curated to maximise authenticity and flavour.

Yamas is the sister site of West Looe success story The Sardine Factory. It’s co-owned by Nikos Oikonomopoulos (the chef at the helm) and Ben Palmer (of Great British Menu fame and winner of Best Chef at the Trencherman’s Awards 2024). The pair’s shared vision and Nikos’ culinary kudos meant Yamas was always destined to be a quality dining destination.

Trencherman’s tip

Pitch up early for your table and spend time perusing the deli shelves of Greek goodies or indulging in a Passionfruit Martini with a view at the upstairs bar and terrace.
