Relaxed fine dining in Dartmouth
Elly Wentworth, former MasterChef: The Professionals finalist, continues to delight South West diners with her culinary mastery at this iconic Dartmouth restaurant. The Angel has an illustrious past and this spectacular setting is enjoying an exciting era under Elly’s tenure.
The restaurant is a great example of relaxed fine dining at its best, and the team take as much care over guests’ comfort as they do in the sourcing, cooking and presentation of delicacies such as roast diver scallops and Devon Red venison.
From the likes of rice cracker canapés with curried mayonnaise and caviar to beetroot tart with poppy seed goat’s curd, beetroot jam and sorrel (served theatrically on a raised platter), every minute detail is fashioned with artistry and an eye for presentation.
The puddings are equally intricate and include delights such as an indulgent “chocolate bar” with layers of lime caramel and pistachio.
Seats by the large picture windows offer lovely views over the harbour, so arrive early and explore the impressive drinks menu (which includes a superb wine list and notable local additions) while watching boats bobbing on the River Dart.
Trencherman’s tip: if you want to see how Elly and team craft the exquisite dishes, book a table close to the open kitchen and spy on the culinary action.
