A slew of accolades (including Best Restaurant in the 2021 Trencherman’s Awards and Best Restaurant in the 2020 Food Reader Awards) has cemented Number Eight’s reputation as one of the region’s most exciting restaurants.
As stalwarts of the hospitality scene in Cornwall, Joshua Jones and Chloe Wilks had plenty of industry experience to draw upon when, four years ago, they took the plunge and launched their own restaurant.
Going it alone was bold, but it paid off and Joshua’s tasting menus have developed a fanbase of foodies who travel from all over the region to experience them. Joshua works alone in the kitchen, carefully sourcing top‑notch produce for dishes such as cured local scallops with blood orange, while Chloe is the friendly face out front who looks after diners with calm efficiency and warmth.
In summer 2022, the restaurant moved from its unassuming location in a Bideford side street to a quayside venue in the north Devon town.
At the new space, guests get to experience delightful river views alongside Joshua’s smart cooking, as well as the opportunity to sup in the chef’s table room.
