Kevin Viner made history in 1993 by earning Cornwall’s first Michelin star at Pennypots in Blackwater – an honour he retained for seven consecutive years.
Following this, he spent years consulting and cooking for high-profile clients including the Royal Family and the Prince and Princess of Monaco. He then returned to Cornwall and has now revived the Pennypots name within The Falmouth Arms in Ladock, the rural inn he runs with his wife Jill.
The couple have revitalised the historic 17th-century coaching inn, retaining its beamed ceilings and wonky walls while adding their own distinctive style.
Kevin’s menus, refined over decades, showcase a select number of elegantly crafted classics made from Cornwall’s very best produce. Cooked by Kevin and served by Jill, highlights include the twice-baked West Country cheese soufflé, roasted lobster with orange fennel and basil risotto, and pavlova with lemon posset and Cornish mead-marinated raspberries.
Dinner is served Wednesday to Saturday, while on Sundays the inn takes on its true pub persona by serving up generous traditional roasts.
Not ready to leave? Settle in for the night in one of four character-packed ensuite guest rooms. In the morning, enjoy a breakfast feast ranging from continental favourites to hearty cooked dishes.
