Grade II-listed Boringdon Hall Hotel in Devon may be steeped in history, thanks to its Elizabethan architecture and inclusion in the Domesday Book, but it’s also home to contemporary Michelin-starred four-AA-rosette restaurant Acleaf.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of eating chef Scott Paton’s food will be familiar with his eye for artful plating and talent for palate-pleasing combinations. He hones in on hyper-seasonal produce to create dishes that are both imaginative and rooted in tradition.
Scott says: ‘Dining at Acleaf is interactive – a menu with twists and turns along the way.ʼ The focus is fully on ingredients and the chef expends serious energy – which includes foraging – sourcing the best produce for his novel dining experiences.
Hero ingredients on the four-course evening menu include the likes of crab served curried with mango; guinea fowl paired with sweetcorn and truffle; and peach accompanied by raspberry and almond. Separate menus are available for vegetarian and vegan diners.
Scott’s nose for exceptional drinks pairings is showcased in an English-led wine flight that takes the dining experience at Acleaf next-level.
