‘A guide with teeth’ is how Rick Stein describes the Trencherman’s Guide, the South West’s best-kept little secret which only includes restaurants meeting a strict quality criteria
This year’s guide is bigger than any previous edition and includes 161 restaurant write-ups accompanied by tips on special finds, plus full-page features on each of the 2018 Trencherman’s Award winners.
The guide, which celebrates the glamour and theatre of extraordinary food served in extraordinary places, was launched with a luxe four course lunch at Restaurant Hywel Jones by Lucknam Park on April 30.
A constellation of Michelin star Trencherman’s member chefs cooked together for the cream of the industry in a feast unparalleled in the region. Joining Hywel Jones in the kitchen for the occasion was Scott Paton of Boringdon Hall, Michael Nizzero of The Bath Priory and Andy Appleton of Appleton’s at the Vineyard.
Trencherman’s chairman, Michael Caines MBE, said: ‘As a group of chefs, we are proud to represent the best dining in the South West and continue the Trencherman’s tradition. After all, the guide was started 26 years ago by chefs and hoteliers with the aim of guiding gourmets to the kind of special establishments that we’d like to visit.’
