Lockdown takeout: Pyne Arms, north Devon

Lusting after a gourmet takeout? Set the sat-nav for a delicious drive-thru in the heart of north Devon countryside, care of Pyne Arms

The lowdown

The award winning Exmoor pub is offering gourmet food to-go every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for collection. The weekend menus are uploaded to its Facebook page every week, with regular updates on availability. It’s a takeaway drive-through service, so once you’re in the car park (opposite the pub) you’ll be greeted by a member of staff (at a safe distance) so you can make a contactless payment and collect your food.

When

The Friday and Saturday night takeout is available to order throughout the week and available to pick up from the car park between 5pm-7.30pm. The Sunday service is also available to order throughout the week and is available to pick up 12pm-2pm. We recommend pre-booking in plenty of time (it’s popular) and keeping an eye on Pyne Arms’ social media for updates.

Why Pyne Arms?

Forget fripperies and self-conscious styling: authenticity rules at this rural Exmoor gem. Owners Amie and Ellis Pannell have brought this hidden-away village pub into the 21st century through a menu of great cooking, an excellent local gin list, stonking ales on tap and friendly service. If you haven’t yet eaten in, make sure you book a table at the end of lockdown.

Foodie creds

The pub was voted Trencherman’s Best Dining Pub in 2019, the same year it achieved a Certificate of Excellence on TripAdvisor. Amie and Ellis’ hard work has also seen them score gold in the Taste of the West Awards and earn the title of Best Pub in the Devon Life Food & Drink Awards.

The thought of splashing £200 plus on dinner for two might make you wince, but every penny is well accounted for in the uber luxe Lucknam Park experience.
