This attractive and historic restaurant with rooms at the head of the Exe Estuary has welcomed weary seafarers, traders and travellers since 1720.

The contemporary incarnation of The Salutation Inn sees Tom and Amelia Williams- Hawkes maintaining the friendly hospitality – but seasoning it with beautiful cooking care of Tom, head chef Luke Heaver and their small kitchen brigade.

Their cooking fuses British classics with modern French influences and revolves around locally sourced and seasonal produce. The resulting dishes look as divine as they taste and can be feasted on in an airy atrium that’s full of light and plants.

Start your evening with a cocktail or glass of fizz as you peruse the dining options: the evening à la carte menu is complemented by a tasting menu where guests get to discover the breadth of the team’s culinary skills.

If you’re going down the tasting menu route, you’d be well advised to pair it with the expertly selected wine flight. Don’t worry if this raises the likelihood of a disagreement over who’ll drive home, as six high-spec guest bedrooms provide an extremely comfortable remedy.
