With just five tables squeezed into a tiny 15th‑century fisherman’s cottage, Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen is undoubtedly one of the smallest restaurants in the South West but, boy, does it punch above its weight.

Locally landed seafood is crafted with unfussy finesse into exquisite small plates and paired with a hand‑picked collection of interesting wines. Hero dishes include Port Isaac lobster scampi with chilli jam and garlic mayonnaise, cured brill with red peppers, coconut and chilli, and whole dover sole with lemon and capers.

It’s located by the slipway that leads the village fishing boats out into the green‑blue waters of the harbour, and it would be hard to find a more picture‑book‑pretty setting in the whole of Cornwall.

The entire experience is attractive, intimate, casual and – thanks to Nathan’s determinedly pared‑back cooking which puts all the focus on ingredients – pleasingly rustic.

To get the vibe, imagine feasting with friends on a selection of sharing plates while quaffing a bottle of something crisp and delicious, and peeking through tiny windows at fishing boats chugging past.
