The Rocket Store, Boscastle

Cornish seafood with an Asian twist

Listening to the lap of water and sniffing lunch on the salty air are just two of the pleasures of dining alfresco at this bijou Boscastle restaurant.

Nestled under green hills and tucked into the side of the characterful Cornish harbour, the charmingly rustic and intimate dining space offers a fish-focused menu with exciting twists of Asian flair.

A succession of gorgeously presented daily dishes parade from the open-plan kitchen, all crafted with a commendable attention to flavour. Prepare yourself for the likes of Porthilly oysters infused with a fiery chilli kick and sweetened with apple, hand-dived scallops lavished with seaweed butter, and butterflied mackerel accompanied by the gratifying tang of a Thai nahm jim sauce.

Friendly service, atmospheric music, a young ambitious team and a mix of natural and classic wines make The Rocket Store a restaurant worth making a detour to experience. Head chefs Freddie Woodruff and Alex Key have access to some of the best ingredients on the Cornish coast (including from their Boscastle farm Trebiffen and fishing boat Rene) which feature heavily on their menus.

Be sure to take along a group of seafood-loving co-conspirators to help you demolish the sharing plates, and keep an eye on the blackboard for specials based around the latest catch.
